Longtime Tai Ji teacher Priyadarshi is offering a free Tai Ji class on Sunday, January 22th at 10 a.m. at High Mou…

Longtime Tai Ji teacher Priyadarshi is offering a free Tai Ji class on Sunday, January 22th at 10 a.m. at High Mountain Hall.

The class is open both to people who are curious about Tai Ji, as well as those who have had previous Tai Ji experience. In addition, classes provide instruction in the healthful art of Chi Gong which is an integral part of this Tai Ji system.

The practice of the art of Tai Ji emphasizes the mind and body in harmony. Millions of people around the globe from all walks of life practice this ancient form of “moving meditation”, regardless of age, gender or physical fitness, Practitioners learn about themselves and the nature of the world, as well as enriching their quality of life.

Although the application of each move has its origins in the martial arts, Tai Ji demonstrates that one’s greatest power is found in cultivating and maintaining relaxation, internal peace, and emotional calm. Tai Ji fosters resolution of hostility rather than mere dominance over an opponent. In this way, Tai Ji teaches skills of engagement that apply to all kinds of human interaction, not just physical altercations.

The slow and graceful movements of Tai Ji are primarily designed to provide the practitioner with a method of achieving a healthier body, mind and spirit. Tai Ji can also have a deep therapeutic effect. These coordinated and relaxed body movements are slow and uninterrupted like flowing streams and moving clouds. During Tai Ji, the mind is tranquil but alert, with consciousness directing the body movements creating a unified flow of energy.

For more information call 623-2180.
